Did You Know...
Couples therapy was found in one study to be more effective for depression than anti-depressant medication.* The effectiveness continued even a year after the end of the couples' counseling. It just goes to show how much we affect each other's lives!.

About the Counselor:

Jennifer Stoos, M.Div., M.A., LMFT
I have been married for twenty-two years and am a parent of two young boys, ages 10 and 7. Marriage and parenting have been in turn fun, challenging, exciting, overwhelming, and wonderful. Just when you think you have the hang of it, life throws some more excitement into the mix.

My professional background includes over ten years as an ordained Pastor in the The United Church of Christ. In the course of church work I had the opportunity to offer support and pastoral counseling to many couples and families. Prior to that I worked for five years as an employee assistance counselor helping individuals, couples, and families find the help and resources that they needed. I have my Master's Degree in Divinity from Harvard, my Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy from St. Mary's, and my bachelor's degree from Carleton.

Often people ask how I feel about working with people from other faith traditions, or no faith tradition at all. My own faith beliefs lead me to be open to other's experiences and identities. That includes people from a variety of cultures, faiths, and sexual and affectional identies. I believe that a respectful caring atmosphere is essential to counseling. If I can't like you and you can't like me we won't get very far (and there's research to back this up).

Feel free to contact me to answer any questions you might have.
