Did You Know...
Pregnancy changes your brain. The hormonal changes that prepare women for breast feeding and giving birth also affect bonding. This can make some women feel so protective and anxious about their new little one that it is hard to get a babysitter to go out or even for an hour to exercise. If this system malfunctions for some reason it can make connection with the new baby harder. So if your partner has just given birth remember that her brain has just changed as well!*
Sliding Fee Counseling/Reduced Fee Counseling:
I am a student in the Marriage and Family Therapy certificate program at St. Mary’s University of Minnesota, and hold a master’s degree in counseling from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and a master’s degree in education from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. I have I have completed Level 1 training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy, which is based on John Gottman’s research on what makes successful couple relationships. As a school counselor for the last 10 years, I worked with individuals on issues related to anger, conflict, grief, and family change.
I have been married for 18 years and have two children. We are a very busy and active family who loves to travel, camp, bike, play sports and watch sports (oh, and occasionally we sit around doing nothing which is refreshing!).
My view is that therapy can be life changing—for individuals and couples. When a primary relationship changes or becomes difficult to cope with, we need to find new ways of relating that can lead to a more satisfying and stable relationship. I believe in collaboration—I will get to know you, work alongside you, challenge and support you. I welcome people from all ethnicities and cultures, and those in same-sex relationships.
