Did You Know...
Couples therapy was found in one study to be more effective for depression than anti-depressant medication.* The effectiveness continued even a year after the end of the couples' counseling. It just goes to show how much we affect each other's lives!.
Jennifer Stoos, M.Div., M.A.
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (L.M.F.T.)

I have been married for twenty-three years and am a parent of two young boys, ages 11 and 9. Marriage and parenting have been in turn fun, challenging, exciting, overwhelming, and wonderful. Just when you think you have the hang of it, life throws some more excitement into the mix.
Since founding Rekindle Counseling I have met people from all walks of life and have worked with people ranging from their teens to their mid 70s. I work with many relationship issues including affairs, parenting differences, fighting, deciding whether or not to get married, trust, sexuality and intimacy, step-parenting, and couples recovering after attaining sobriety. Some of the couples I meet are dating, some are living together, some are commited or married, and some have been together many decades. I also see individuals with concerns such as anxiety, depression, stress reduction, trauma, performance improvement, and personal growth.
How do I work? I try to match the way I work with your style and the issue we are addressing. I have training in couple counseling in the Gottman method, Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy, and Brent Atkinson's PET-C method. I am also trained in EMDR and trauma and clinical hypnosis. Generally you will find me collaborative, humorous, direct and practical.
My professional background includes over ten years as an ordained Pastor in the The United Church of Christ. Prior to that I worked for five years as an employee assistance counselor. I have my Master's Degree in Divinity from Harvard, my Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy from St. Mary's, and my bachelor's degree from Carleton.
Often people ask how I feel about working with people from other faith traditions, or no faith tradition at all. My own faith beliefs lead me to be open to other's experiences and identities. That includes people from a variety of cultures, faiths, and sexual and affectional identities. I believe that a respectful caring atmosphere is essential to counseling. If I can't like you and you can't like me we won't get very far (and there's research to back this up).
